It’s getting hot in here!

The first boss that most guilds are going for first in Firelands is Shannox. Most guides pin this boss as the easiest to start with, so we chose to kickoff with him as well.

Basic Concept

• 1 huntard boss
• his 2 puppies
• don’t stand in the fire, traps, all things bad

Boss = Shannox

• 24M health
• Throws traps are peoples feet, typical hunter, gtfo of them immediately just look at how much damage they do: Immolation Trap and Crystal Prison Trap
• Puts a debuff on the tank (Jagged Tear) this needs to be reset
• Plays fetch with his puppy, throws a spear in the ground, big shiny aoe thing easy to avoid, do so Hurl Spear
• Should be tanked far from his puppy, Riplimb

Pup #1 = Riplimb

• 9.6M health
• Needs to be tanked, we used off tank for this
• Boss plays fetch with him
• Keep away from Shannox
• Applies debuff to tank called (Jagged Tear) this needs to be reset

Pup #2 = Rageface

• 9.6M health
• Untankable
• Will target random raid members and eat their face (Face Rage) he will do a ton of damage and needs a single hit of 30k + to force him to stop eating face and change target
• He does a melee attack, which hits for about 18,000 damage every 2 seconds
• Face Rage target should get massive single target healing, e.g. dedicated healer

Our First Attemps

Well we didn’t kill him our first raid night, it took forever and ever to clear trash (if felt) and we had 13 tries on him. But, we learned a lot from our tries though, and we’re ready to nail the kill on Sunday now. Our first attempt logs are here, if you like the logs sort of thing. Not that I’m obsessed with logs or anything.. hey look at that over there! SHINEY!

Our raid asignments were:

• holy paladin (me!) on Shannox tank with bacon on puppy#1 riplimb tank
• 1 resto shammy on puppy #1 riplimb tank
• 1 resto druid on raid and puppy #2 rageface target
• 2 ranged on rageface, remaining split dps on shannox and riplimb

Lessons! What we learned from this:

1. puppy eats face and kills people (rage face ability rofl)
2. traps are hard to see
3. resto druid best on raid (not enough burst healing for face rage ability)
4. dedicate 3rd healer to the puppy face eating target
5. rageface was an issue and he didnt go down fast enough, need to burn him instead of split all dps

Final Strategy

What you ALL need to know:

1. look at the ground, seriously, if a trap is thrown there you have 2 seconds to move the f out of it, so stop casting and move. No one should be getting trapped… Priority, avoid these. They look like a hunter trap:
2. see this spear and pretty swirly things on the ground? Hurl Spear (phase 1) and Magma Rapture (phase 2) stand in-between the swirly. This is a top priority: interrupt all casting to move out
   
3. Shannox cleaves dont stand in front
4. Healers and ranged dps should spread out in the middle area, like so… (skull is boss, x is riplimb, and moon is rageface)

Suggested Healing Asignments

• Holy paladin on Shannox tank with bacon on riplimb tank
• 1 raid healer dedicated on raid + fill on riplimb tank when stack is high (if you have a resto druid/holy priest this should be assignment)
• 1 rageface target dedicated healer and fill for raid (strong single target healer, disc priest is great)

How to handle Phase 1:

Option A

Step 1 – DPS Rageface down entirely, he boss gets 1 stack of frenzy, increasing his damage and haste by 30%, leading to roughly 69% more damage on the main tank, but I think I can easily heal through this.
Step 2 – Bring Shannox down to 35%.
Step 3 – Kill Riplimb
Step 4 – DPS Shannox down
Step 5 – Welcome to Phase 2! Shannox will Frenzy at 30% and does a lot more damage, line up healing and dps cooldowns for this phase.  Kill him!

Option B

Step 1 Start fight by focusing Shannox until 35%
Step 2 At 35% switch to Riplimb.
Step 3 If Riplimb is under 5%, kill Rageface
Step 4  Then kill Riplimb
Step 5 Welcome to Phase 2! Shannox will Frenzy at 30% and does a lot more damage, line up healing and dps cooldowns for this phase. Kill him!

Tips for Phase 1:

Slow Riplimb down by using Mind Flay, slow and traps so the tanks can reset stacks.

How to handle Phase 2:

Oh hai der damage!  Shannox goes into a frenzy, he does more DPS and spawns more traps.  He not use hurl spear but instead uses Magma Rupture dont stand in the aoe kids!

For healing –>

Line up cooldowns to hit one after another:  spirit link totem –> guardian spriit –> lay on hands –> pain supression –> hand of sacrifice

For dpsing –>

Make sure you dps cooldown is off cd for this, and use your pot  for pewpewing!   Use Bloodlust after the 2nd Magma Rupture and DPS down Shannox

Holy Paladin Pro Tips for P2 –>

Use Hand of Protection to rid tank of bleed effect during enrage if needed.
Bacon your MT, take advantage of Tower of Radiance

Tips/Tricks to Identify Problems and Solutions!

If you are having trouble with traps, you can run these parses to see exactly HOW MUCH trouble they are causing you and who.

For Immolate Trap and it’s HUGE damage, run the world of logs expression editor code:

(spell = “Immolation Trap”) and fullType = SPELL_DAMAGE  and targetType = “Player”

If you see this, you know where all that damage is coming from

For the Prison Trap, run the world of logs expression editor code:

(spell = “Crystal Prison Trap Effect”) and fullType = SPELL_AURA_APPLIED  and targetType = “Player”

You should see NONE
