Welcome to Firelands – Lord Rhyolith Edition!
I hope you have a drivers license for this annoying boss…
Lord Rhyolith is one of the first 5 bosses in Firelands. He has a unique mechanic that our guild found.. very freaking annoying. Here goes!

Basic Concept
- 1 huge boss
- 2 targetable feet, yes they are called left foot and right foot. Original, I know.
- 2 phases, but phase 2 is like <30 seconds
- we use 1 tank
- 3 healers
- need raid awareness and don’t stand in the fire… really don’t
Boss = Lord Rhyolith
- 15M health
- 1 tank overall
- 80% armor debuff on him (Obsidian Armor), so you dont get any dps on the boss until you get his armor to drop
- DPSing his feet force him to move with a new bar/mechanic
- Needs to be steered over active volcanoes, each drops his debuff by 10%
- At 25% hp and 0 armor, he’ll pass into P2 which is BURN BABY BURN
Add #1 = Fragments
- Fragments of Rhyolith
- 116k health
- Tank will tank
- We put ranged DPS prio to kill them
Add #2 = Spark
- Spark of Rhyolith
- 1.7M health
- Hellfire aoe STAY OUT OF THIS HEALERS/DPS!
- Tank will grab and drag outside of raid
- We put ranged DPS prio to kill them
Overall Strategy
Overall, the first phase is the hardest and it progressively gets harder. Your team will spend a significant amount of time learning exactly how to steer the boss, but once you do the fight becomes cake. The burn phase is really easy and is over in under 30 seconds 
What you ALL need to know:
- 1 tank fight (he’ll grab the adds)
- every so often, the boss with do a big aoe stomp called Concussive Stomp. You’ll get thrown back if you are too close/melee, and then randomly 2-3 volcanoes will spawn
- see lines of fire? DONT STAND IN IT!
- see flaming firepoo? DONT GET HIT BY IT!
- see an add that hellfires? MOVE AWAY QUICKLY!
- see a crater? DONT STEP IN IT!
- holy steering batmatman, RNG FTS! put your melee dps on “driving” duty on the feet to steer the boss over the active volcanoes. Each one will reduce the armor by 10%.
- exploding volcanoes will puke out fireballs at random people, See #3
- smashed craters will kill you if you walk in them, See #5
- craters (smashed volcanoes)will sometimes do a “lava flows” explosion, stay out of the lines of fire. See #2
- Look around you…
- INACTIVE volcanoes don’t do anything just yet.
- EXPLODING volcanoes are throwing out fire poo on random players.
- Driving team –> steer the boss over the ACTIVE VOLCANO.
- Once he walks on an active volcano, it is a SMASHED VOLCANO (and leaves a Crater).
- Don’t walk in the SMASHED VOLCANO (Crater). It will hurt and most likely KILL you!
- SMASHED volcanoes (Crater) can spew out Lava Flows from the ground. It has a distinct pattern, don’t get hit by the lava it can and WILL kill you. TIP: I turn my camera slightly down for this entire fight because I want to see what’s on the GROUND.
Lava Flows will have a set pattern, from these 3 options.
How to handle this fight
Suggested Healing Asignments
- 1 healer on the tank (if holy paladin, use bacon and heal the raid but focus him when he has lots of adds)
- rest of healers on the raid, lots of random raid damage in p1 and p2
the healers
Step 1 – bacon your tank
Step 2 – heal.. everyone but keep in range of the tank.
Step 3 – don’t stand in poo, fire, lava flows
Step 4 – heal nubs who stand in poo
Step 5 – use anything you have to deal / heal through p2 (and remember it’s less than 30 seconds)
the dps team
Step 1 – dps adds very fast (not feet!) unless the “driving” team calls for help
Step 2 - don’t stand in poo, fire, lava flows
Step 3 – use anything you have to burst dps (and damage mitigation) through p2 (and remember it’s less than 30 seconds)
the melee DRIVING team
Step 1 – identify one of you as a the “driver” and call out when you need more on left/right
Step 2 - don’t stand in poo, fire, lava flows
Step 3 – hammer on the right foot and then drive the boss over the active volcanos to knock down the armor buff.
Step 4 – weep at the RNG of the volcanoes on this fight…..
the tank
Step 1 – grab the adds and move them out of the raid
Step 2 – stay out of poo, fire, lava flows as much as possible
Step 3 – use a cooldown during the Spark add, he hurts (and make sure he’s out of the raid)
Step 4 – taunt Rhyolith in p2 and just holds him for the burn
Holy Paladin Tips for this fight:
- Use Aura Mastery during the Lava Flows explosions and when off cd during phase 2 (its fire damage)
- Use Holy Radiance often to help with raid damage
- Use Divine Protection on cooldown for movement and damage mitigation during the Lava Flows or if a Spark spawns on your face.
Conclusion
- This fight has a lot of raid damage, though mostly all of it is avoidable. It will take your dps a while to learn that though If you get to phase 2, you’re really so close you can taste the kill.
